The July 2008 Edition of the Trainer's Guide on Dependent Adult Abuse for Mandatory Reporters has been approved (Approval #19) by the Iowa Department of Public Health - Abuse Education Review Panel.

If you are using, or in the future choose to adopt the Trainer's Guide on Dependent Adult Abuse for Mandatory Reporters Curriculum for Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter Training, you must make application for curriculum approval with the Iowa Department of Public Health - Abuse Education Review Panel. Please visit their website http://www.idph.state.ia.us/bh/abuse_ed_review.asp to learn about the history and purpose of the curriculum approval process and expectations. In addition to information on the application for approval, you will find the review panel's meeting agendas and minutes, links, and a list of others with approved curricula.

If you are submitting an application to the Department of Public Health's Abuse Education Review Panel, you must print off this certification statement and submit it with your application.

The Iowa Department of Elder Affairs will continue to provide enhancement of this curriculum, which will remain available on our website. However, the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs will no longer assume responsibility for providing you notice of updates to the Trainer's Guide on Dependent Adult Abuse for Mandatory Reporters Curriculum. Per Iowa Code, you can expect future correspondence, including update notification to come from the Iowa Department of Public Health - Abuse Education Review Panel.

CERTIFICATION OF TRAINERS

Iowa Administrative Code 321 Chapter 12.4 Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training became effective May 1, 2006 with a compliance date of November 1, 2006.  This Administrative Code Section requires individuals who utilize the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs Trainers Guide for Mandatory Reporters (Approval #19) to become a certified trainer.  This certification is valid for three years and must be conducted by staff at the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs.  Train the Trainer Certification Sessions are posted on the IDEA’s website home page when scheduled.  It is anticipated that the 2007 sessions will be posted in late February.  For further questions, please contact Linda Hildreth at (515) 725-3321 or Linda.Hildreth@iowa.gov
