President Gene Vincent of Carroll joined the State Board in 1996. He has served on the Carroll Community School Board of Directors since 1978, including 13 years as Board President. Vincent also has served on committees with the Iowa Association of School Boards. Vincent owns real estate and commodity brokerage businesses in Carroll.

Jackie Dout was appointed to the State Board in 2006. She is senior vice president, chief financial officer and secretary to the Board for Pella Corporation in Pella, Iowa. Prior to joining Pella, Jackie was president of JJB Enterprises, Inc., and serviced as an independent contractor for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, focused on organizational strategy. She has served on numerous education boards, and in Michigan served on a committee to align higher education curriculum and teaching methods with current business practices and needs. Jackie earned her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan and her MBA from Duquesne.

Charlie Edwards joined the State Board in 2000. He is Dean of two colleges at Drake University: School of Journalism and Mass Communication and College of Business and Public Administration. He is a former Publisher and President of the Des Moines Register. Edwards is a member of numerous boards, including the Gardner and Florence Call Cowles Foundation, Iowa College Foundation, and the Des Moines Art Center. Charlie is from Des Moines. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado.
 
Sister Jude Fitzpatrick

Sister Jude Fitzpatrick of West Des Moines was named to the State Board of Education in 2002. She now serves as vice-chancellor for the Diocese of Des Moines after completing two terms as President of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary. Prior to that, she served the Diocese of Des Moines as superintendent of schools for 12 years and assistant superintendent for three years. She also served as principal of St. Theresa's school in Des Moines, and was a classroom instructor.

Brian Gentry of Des Moines joined the State Board in 2006. He is Associate General Counsel with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in West Des Moines. He formerly served as the General Counsel for Iowa Governor Thomas J. Vilsack and Iowa Lieutenant Governor Sally J. Pederson. Brian has served on numerous boards and commissions, including Children and Families of Iowa, ChildServe, and the Governor’s Achievement Gap Taskforce. Brian received his bachelor of arts degree from Lake Forest College and his juris doctorate degree from the University of Iowa.
 
Rosie Hussey

Rosie Hussey of Mason City joined the State Board in 2004. She is chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of North Iowa and is a Mason City Chamber Ambassador, and a member of the Mason City Economic Development board. She was born and educated in St. Louis.
 
Wayne Kobberdahl

Wayne Kobberdahl of Council Bluffs joined the State Board in 2004. He is retired from Iowa State University, where he was a community development specialist for 27 years. He also was a professor at Waldorf College, a research associate at University of Nebraska, and a public school teacher in North Dakota and California. Kobberdahl has served on the Iowa Western Community College Board of Trustees and as president of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees. He is active in numerous community and state organizations focused on rural and economic development, as well as social, cultural, and educational issues.
 
Mary Jean Montgomery

Mary Jean Montgomery of Spencer joined the State Board in 1997. She is a grant writer and consultant. Montgomery served on the Iowa College Aid Commission from 1989-1993 and Spencer School Board from 1981-1988. She previously served on the State Board of Education from 1993-1996, and on the Iowa Telecommunication Commission 1996-1997. Montgomery is a mother of three and Estherville High School graduate. She earned her bachelor's degree from Lawrence University and master's degree from Stanford University.
 
Max Phillips

Max Phillips was appointed in September 2005 to the State Board for a term expiring April 2008. Phillips is President of Qwest Communications in Iowa and former President of the Woodward-Granger school board. He was elected to three terms as mayor of Bouton, Iowa, from 1981-1986. Phillips served for seven years as co-chair of Iowa’s Small Business Advisory Council and has participated in various economic development and educational reform initiatives at the state level, including the Iowa Learns Council. Phillips earned a masters in business administration from the University of Iowa, as well as a master's degree from Concordia Seminary.
