The FY 2001 Omnibus Appropriations Act provides $1.2 billion nationally for grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) for urgent school renovation, activities authorized under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and technology activities related to school renovation.

States must distribute 75 percent of their allocation for funds to LEAs for urgent school repairs and 25 percent to LEAs for activities authorized under Part B of IDEA or technology activities related to school renovation. Grants must be awarded on a competitive basis. Deadline for applications is March 15, 2002, to the Iowa Department of Education, and notice of awards will be made on May 15, 2002.
