The School Facility Unit resides in the Division of Financial
and Information Services.
Mission
The unit's mission contributes to the overall mission of the
Department of Education by:
Serving in a leadership role to assist and motivate Iowa's
school districts, area education agencies, community colleges
and nonpublic schools to provide adequate and safe school
facilities and grounds for students.
Key Responsibilities
The School Facilities Unit assumes a number of responsibilities
relating to the state's school infrastructure program that
include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the Iowa Demonstration (Federal) Construction
Grant Program.
- Managing the Quality Zone Academy Bonds (QZAB) Program.
- Managing the School Renovation, IDEA and Technology
Grant Program.
- Managing the Iowa Vision School Infrastructure Grant
Program.
- Providing technical assistance on construction, facilities
and playgrounds to school districts, area education agencies,
community colleges and nonpublic schools.
- Providing technical assistance on accessibility.
- Providing technical assistance on school bond elections.
- Evaluate requests for department approval on construction
and lease purchase of facilities from community colleges and
area education agencies.
- Visit school sites and make recommendations on facilities.
