Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP): Assurances Pertaining to Homeless Children and Youth

62)  The LEA will locate and identify homeless children or youth of school age who are found within the district, whether or not they are enrolled in school. 281-IAC 33.3.

63)  The LEA will post information encouraging homeless children and youths of school age to enroll in the public school at community shelters and other locations in the district where services or assistance is provided to the homeless. 281-IAC 33.3

64)  The LEA will examine and revise, if necessary, existing school policies or rules that create barriers to the enrollment of homeless children or youths, consistent with 281-IAC 33.3.  School districts are encouraged to cooperate with homeless agencies and organizations to explore comprehensive, equivalent alternative educational programs and support services for homeless children and youth when necessary to implement the intent of these rules. 281-IAC 33.3

71)  The LEA has designated an appropriate staff person, who may also be a coordinator for other federal and state programs, as a local educational agency liaison for homeless children and youth to perform the duties necessary to meet the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Title X Subtitle B, No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and Chapter 33, Iowa Administrative Code.  The liaison will collaborate and coordinate with the state coordinator responsible for the provision of education and related services to homeless children and youth in carrying out the intent of federal and state requirements.  The district will comply with all district-wide requirements as indicated in federal and state rules guiding this legislation.
