State Class Size Reduction/Early Intervention Initiative
| |
The Early Intervention/Class Size appropriation was re-authorized
for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. This allocation was made for one
year only.
The estimated allocation for each school district will be available
on the department's web site in early August 2004. The local
appropriation should be approximately the same as the 2003-2004
allocation.
The actual payment to school districts will be made in the middle
of October 2004. There is not a separate application for the Early
Intervention/Class Size funds. This is a direct formula
appropriation to districts.
The Iowa Legislature originally passed the Early Intervention/Class
Size bill in 2000. The goals of the Early Intervention Program are:
- To provide school districts with resources to reduce K-3 class
size in basic skills instruction to the state goal of 17 students
for every one teacher.
- To provide school districts with resources for K-3 early
intervention efforts in basic skills instruction, especially
reading.
- To increase communication and accountability regarding
student performance.
