Class Size/Early Intervention

The Early Intervention/Class Size appropriation was re-authorized for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. This allocation was made for one year only.

The estimated allocation for each school district will be available on the department's web site in early August 2004. The local appropriation should be approximately the same as the 2003-2004 allocation.

During the 78^th legislative session the Iowa General Assembly enacted H.F. 743, Iowa Early Intervention Block Grant Program. The goals of this legislation were: (a) to provide school districts with resources to reduce K-3 class size in basic skills instruction to the state goal of 17 students for every one teacher, (b) to provide school districts with resources for K-3 early intervention efforts in basic skills instruction, especially reading, and (c) to increase communication and accountability regarding student performance.
