ANNOUNCEMENT
Iowa Special Education Advisory
Panel
The Iowa Special
Education Advisory Panel (SEAP) advises and assists the Iowa Department of
Education with the provision of free and appropriate public education for
individuals with disabilities. It
exists by authority of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
to provide guidance on special education programs and services.
The Iowa Department
of Education is seeking new members for the advisory panel who are willing to
serve a three-year term. Members of
SEAP represent public and private sectors that by virtue of their position,
interest, or training can contribute information in regard to the education of
students with disabilities. The
Individual with Disabilities Education Act requires certain categories of
representation on state advisory councils.
The SEAP currently
meets as a group at least four-five times a year in the Des Moines area. Lodging, mileage and child-care are
reimbursed. Additional committee work
time may be necessary.
If you are
interested, or if you know of someone else who would be a good representative
on this panel please ask him or her to submit the enclosed form. The Director of the Iowa Department of
Education appoints members. If you have
further questions please contact Steve Maurer, Panel Facilitator, 515/281-3576,
email: steve.maurer@ed.state.ia.us
or Susan White, secretary, 515/281-4030, email: susan.white@ed.state.ia.us.
